Similarities Between the T6 and T6i
The similarities in these two cameras are quite obvious; however, for individuals who are unfamiliar with cameras; these two cameras may seem pretty much the same. Some of the similarities between the two cameras include inbuilt wireless, continuous shooting, pentamirror optical viewfinders, and 3-inch screens. Users can also capture videos in high resolutions of 1920 x 1080. The lenses of these two cameras can be used interchangeably so if, by chance a user has a Canon T6 camera but decides to upgrade their camera to the Canon T6i, they can use the lenses of the T6 on the T6i.
Main Differences Between the T6 and T6i
Price
The price of the cameras is probably the biggest difference between them. The T6 is listed at around $400, while the T6i is listed at about $900 (but we see it available, on occasion, for less than $600).
Touchscreen/Usability
The T6i has an extremely responsive touchscreen that facilitates the manipulation of the camera’s settings to enable shooting from different angles as opposed to using buttons, as is the case of the T6. It also has improved resolution that gives a photographer an idea of what their pictures would look like before they even capture them. Another notable difference between the two touch screens is that the Canon T6i’s touchscreen is a tilt-flip screen as opposed to the Canon T6 one that is fixed to its back.
Resolution/Megapixels
The Megapixels of the cameras also vary with the T6i bragging 24 megapixels while the Canon T6 boasts 18 megapixels. Any photographer worth their salt will inform you that megapixels are an extremely essential part of photography particularly if one wishes to print out physical copies of their images in high definition and the more megapixels, the better your images. According to experts in the field, anything above five megapixels is more than ideal for normal, everyday photography use and the fact that both these cameras have way more than megapixels than the expected five means that they are capable of doing a pretty decent job.
Weight and Dimension
Another noticeable difference between the Canon T6 and Canon T6i cameras would be in the weight and dimensions of the cameras. The T6 weighs 485 grams and measures 129 x 101 x 78 mm while the T6i weighs 555 grams and measures 32 x 101 x 78 mm. The fact that the T6 is lighter could be appealing to a select few, but it is not such a significant difference given that a camera’s body isn’t necessarily the only determining factor when it comes to the total weight of the camera. Other things, such as the lens could alter the final weight of the camera immensely.
Various Features
The T6 lacks some features such as UHS memory card support, inbuilt microphone, and remote control via a user’s smartphone features that the T6i is equipped with. While these are not features that photographers may require for their daily activities, they are certainly convenient features to have for when the need arises.
Conclusion
Conclusively one can say that the Canon T6i is an upgraded version of the T6. This is because a lot of the functional parts of the T6i are improved versions of the Canon T6. Some of those functionalities include quicker continuous shooting at five shots per second as opposed to two, improved focus points of nineteen versus the previous nine, a 12-meter flash range in comparisons to the T6’s nine-meter, and twice the ISO at 12.8. The ISO of the two cameras can be further expanded to 12800 for the T6 and 25600 for the T6i.
Disadvantages of the Canon Cameras
Environmental sealing to protect the camera from external factors such as dust, rain, etc. and image stabilization are two important things that both the Canon T6 and T6i cameras lack. Photographers using these cameras would be limited to using them in normal, steady settings away from shaky surfaces, high temperatures, wet environments, or any other tough condition for that matter. Both cameras are equipped with pentamirror optical viewfinders which are not as good or bright as the pentaprism viewfinders that you can find in other cameras.
However, despite these few downsides, the Canon cameras are great for sports photography as they have huge lenses and powerful sensors that can effortlessly capture objects in motion.
Final Thoughts
Apart from small differences such as the battery life and weight, the T6i takes the crown home. This is because it has better systems and several additional features that the T6 lacks. However, this is not to say that the T6 is not a great camera because it is. Equipped with an 18-55mm kit lens, the Canon T6 is a great camera for individuals who may be limited by their budget.
Nevertheless, your needs as a user should determine which of the two cameras you should opt for because, for example, if you intend to shoot films/videos, the T6i would be recommended as it offers 60 FPS for video as opposed to the 30 FPS offered by the T6 camera. Both the T6 and T6i cameras are powerful, light, and easy to use cameras and choosing the cameras that suit your needs is a sure way ensure you take some really great shots that will wow many. The two cameras are ideal for, street photography, landscape photography, sports photography, portrait photography, and everyday use.
